Bioethics Presentation
For the week before Halloween, we were tasked to create a presentation on the ethics of a modern Biotech topic. In this project, my partners; Cris Boggio, Michael Carbonaro, and Rick York, decided to choose the ethics of Xenotransplantation and Transgenics (information on these topics are in the powerpoint to the right)

Reflection:
During the presentation, we had a hard time deciding on which topic to choose from. The ones that looked most interesting to study were euthanasia, xenotransplantation and transgenics, and cloning. They all present very real issues and very rigid opposition on both sides of the argument (should we, or should we not allow them). After a long discussion we eventually decided which to do, problem was, we were not only behind the other groups, but we were also running out of time. We jumped to work instantly and hammered out a presentation in 3 1/2 class periods over 2 days. I think that because we had so little time to create a presentation, it wasn't up to what we wanted. But, thankfully, we were able to discuss each slide thoroughly and fulfill the main reason of these presentations, to give a topic for other students to discuss. After the discussion I still had a few questions. Mainly how possible how large scale projects for xenotranplantation are. I believe our fellow students took the longest time discussing the aspects and issues of our topic more than any other one (a plus to our grade and presentation in general ;) ). |
